Tobacco storage update

I just pulled out some 5 YEAR OLD tobacco pouches stored in the root cellar.
Commercial menthol and reg products in sealed plastic/mylar type packaging. then into sealed coffee cans.
The product was dry, but placed in a sealed container with a few slices of apple, the moisture was restored and the tobacco was good to roll your own.

I have about 2000 cigars that I put up in 4> 6gal mylar bags with o2 absorbers they were at 68% humidity when bagged 6 months ago .....I just noticed one lost it's vacuum, I need to re-bag and check to see that they are not getting moldy or contorted. If this works I have about 4x this to put up, the rest I'll keep out for smoking pleasure...... the rest are all kept in proper fashion currently but I would like to slow down the aging process even further ....and also less upkeep.

I had some tobacco that was drier than I wished it would be. I set a small dish of water inside the bag and nuked it a few seconds, until the water got hot, then let it sit a few minutes. After four treatments it seemed much nicer. I have tried the apple slice thing and the only result was that the apple molded.

I've been pondering stocking up on cans of Bugler, they got papers allready in the can. Good thinking.

Have some I grew ten years ago that has kept just fine in my dry basement. Put a lime with a cut in it, to remoisturise dry tobacco.

I recently quit smoking and have moved to using dry/nasal snuff. It stores quite well. I have most of mine vacuum sealed. It should last for years, if not decades, stored this way.

Bugler, or any small pouch, costs almost as much as ready-made cigarettes. Ryotobacco.com has a nice tobacco, similar to Bugler, for $17/lb. Bugler would have to sell for 80 cents to compare with that. If you like filter tips you can get filter tipped tubes already rolled for the same price you pay for loose papers. And the Premier Excel stuffer is the nicest machine I have found. (Avoid the Topomatic - It sounds good, but it doesn't last.)
